A new perspective on measuring global development
The article addresses a fundamental question for contemporary economics and official statistics:
Can GDP alone adequately describe the real development, resilience and long-term potential of modern societies?
The authors argue that traditional macroeconomic indicators increasingly need to be complemented by a broader assessment of human, social, institutional and natural capital, as well as the capacity of societies to withstand, recover from and adapt to systemic shocks.
The discussion becomes particularly relevant in an era of armed conflicts, geopolitical instability, demographic transformation, technological change and global economic restructuring.
Beyond GDP
The publication contributes to the international debate surrounding the evolution of the “Beyond GDP” approach.
The central question is no longer only:
“How much does an economy produce?”
but increasingly:
“What has a society preserved, what has it lost, what can it restore,
and what capacity does it have to develop in the future?”
This represents a shift from measuring economic outcomes alone toward measuring development capacity and resilience.
Towards a Data-Driven Civilization
One of the article’s forward-looking concepts is Data-Driven Civilization.
The authors highlight the growing importance of data, digital technologies and artificial intelligence in the future architecture of official statistics, economic analysis, public policy and long-term development planning.
Data is therefore considered not merely a technical resource, but an increasingly strategic component of modern civilization.
A joint scientific contribution
The publication brings together complementary expertise in economics, statistics, systems thinking and international development.
