Fortnite Season 3 - What's New in Season 3?
Fortnite’s seasons are usually a welcome time to try out new weapons, explore the map, and see how far you can take your build. The Fortnite season 3 is no exception, with plenty of new stuff to check out, including the Oscar’s Frenzy Auto Shotgun which can do a triple punch combo alongside some high-flying uppercuts and powerful aerial punches, and the Nitro Fist which lets you sprint faster than ever before. You can also pick up a new explosive weapon called the Boom Bow which fires rapid shots that make it great for taking down vehicles.
There are a few other additions, too. The T-60 armor would not be out of place in either Mad Max or Fallout, both series that are obsessed with DIY gear and big metal structures, and the cobbled-together cars are a perfect fit for this season’s Mad Max theme. The new Rocket Jump ability is a welcome addition, as well, letting you vault over structures like walls to get a bird’s eye view of the landscape.
The most important new feature is undoubtedly the addition of the War Bus, which allows players to travel across the island in a large vehicle that can be hopped into from anywhere on the map. You can use it to speed up your journey to the Battle Royale island, which is handy if you’re trying to beat the competition to a spot. But you can’t just spawn on the island and then grab one immediately; you need to find a bus-related POI on the map, take out the patrollers guarding it, and then complete the quest to unlock it.
I’m not a huge fan of this system, which feels like a bit of an unfair power trip and also makes the game less fun for people who prefer to play on foot. The War Bus’s durability is a real turn-off, too; I can’t remember the last time a single player destroyed the entire top of my building in seconds, and it’s not like they aren’t still driving around and wrecking everyone else’s work.
Thankfully, Epic seems to recognize these issues with the War Bus and is attempting to balance the perks of the vehicle with the downsides. In the future, we hope to see a more balanced system that provides more opportunities for gunplay and also gives non-vehicle players a fighting chance against the vehicles of the world.
